Partner Driven

Scientific evaluation and monitoring provides important information that helps guide and refine Alberta NAWMP planning and implementation priorities. Environment Canada (EC), Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) conduct ongoing research and assume a lead role in scientific evaluation of Alberta NAWMP programs.

Here are some examples of the research these Partners are currently engaged in.

Environment Canada
EC facilitates and conducts scientific research and monitoring on a broad range of migratory bird and species at risk topics including:

Ducks Unlimited Canada
The Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR) is the scientific research arm of DUC. The IWWR directly supports DUC’s conservation planning and implementation. The work done by IWWR also serves to inform and support natural resource policy decisions by government. Key examples include:

  • Broughton’s Creek Watershed — The Impacts of Wetland Loss in Manitoba
  • Ecological Goods and Services (EG&S) pilot project
  • Spatial and Temporal Variation in Nest Success of Prairie Ducks (SpATS) Study

Alberta Sustainable Resource Development
Together with its associate agency Alberta Conservation Association (ACA), SRD also conducts scientific research on and monitoring of a range of fish, wildlife and habitat, including migratory birds and species at risk.
